Custom HTPC Hardware

February 10, 2014Posted by Kevin White

In my HTPC, I used a few items that weren't meant for small form factor cases. I used an ATX motherboard and a full size 450w power supply, so I needed a case that would fit all of my parts. I have listed out the parts for my custom HTPC below.

  • ATX AMD Motherboard - Asrock FM2A85X Extreme6
    • FM2 AMD Socket
    • AMD A85X Chipset
  • AMD Processor - A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz Processor
    • Quad-Core Processor
    • Desktop APU (CPU+GPU)
  • Patriot Memory - 8GB Extreme Master
    • 2X4GB RAM
    • DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000)
  • 64GB SSD SATA Hard Drive
  • 120GB SATA 2.5" Hard Drive (PVR Capabilities)
  • Thermaltake 450Watt Power Supply
  • Custom HTPC Case

New HTPC White-Out Reviews

I wanted to get the best performance and know that I could achieve high quality HD Playback. I have played a wide variety of video file formats and I haven't run into any performance issues. I can play HD content local or streaming, run XBMC, and use Windows Media Center for my Live and Recorded TV.

I used an APU processor to save myself room instead of a large video card, and to reduce power consumption. The APU is a perfect solution to play HD content. With the help of 8GB's of RAM and an SSD hard drive, the machine is quick and efficient.
